National Rural Letter Carriers Convention

Hooch and History Tour Version A

 August 2 & 4, 2008

Today you will enjoy a guided tour of a unique historic home.  The Mary Todd Lincoln House was the first house museum in America to honor a First Lady.  Abraham Lincoln courted Mary Todd in this house. After their marriage in 1842 the couple returned to Lexington several times. During those visits, Mr. Lincoln enjoyed his father in-law’s extensive library. The 14 room house contains period furniture, family portraits and furnishings from the Todd as well as the Lincoln families.

The Hooch portion of today’s excursion will involve a tour at Woodford Reserve Distillery which is a National Historic Landmark.  The tour gives visitors an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the entire distillation process from the sour mash bubbling in the cypress wood tanks to the distillation in copper stills to the coopering of oak barrels. The tour ends in the only stone aging warehouse in existence in America. Complimentary bourbon balls, beverages and samples are offered in the Visitor Center.  There is also a gift shop on site where you may purchase Woodford Reserve bourbon in personalized and commemorative bottles as well as distinctive souvenirs.

Cost for this tour:  $56.00 per person Pre-registered

$66.00 per person at the Convention
